Restore RMAN backup on a different machine

Cyborg
Hi Arslan,

I have taken a full RMAN backup of server A. I need to restore it on the server B.

Oracle DB has already been created on B.

Do I have to delete the DB on B before restoring the backup from A?

If yes then is DBCA the right tool to delete that db?

Regards

You can have multiple databases on one server, so you don't have to delete anything. (unless you have a resource problem --disk space etc.)

If you want to drop a database, there are multiple ways.. And yes, you can use dbca to drop a database. When DBCA deletes a database, it shuts down the database instance and then deletes all database files.
